What's Up, Efrat? 10 - July 2012


Welcome to What's Up, Efrat? with some fun on-location, as well as in-studio news.

First for some EXCELLENT news –
  
* Sylvie Ben Ami, preschool teacher of Efrat's Gan Besor received a certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Education for excellence in running a preschool. Congratulations!
* Sarah Schwartz, a Sherut Leumi National Service worker in Alyn Hospital, has received an award for Excellence from the City of Jerusalem. Sarah, who lives in Efrat, was chosen over 1000 Sherut Leumi workers in Jerusalem. Terrific!!

* Volunteers from Ezer MiZion were treated to a tour of Gush Etzion, including a warm welcome by Efrat Mayor Oded Revivi and a musical program at Matnas Efrat. The program was sponsored by Mishkefet.
* Efrat launched its Monday afternoon Kayitz in the Park with a fun family happening, dedicated to Shalva. The place was packed with joy. And weekly Monday afternoon programs continue through the summer.
* Youngsters from Gush Etzion have created a movie for a Ministry of Culture Contest on Zionism. The film, called "HaMetayeg" – the Tagger. You can watch it here and vote: http://www.youtube.com/tarbutsport/?x=_bFNptPvAAI
* Mazel tov to coach Yoav Reiner and the Efrat all-star soccer teams from grades third to fourth and fifth to sixth, both of whom were victorious in their divisions in the finals of the Jerusalem League of Champions.
The league is comprised of all-star teams from every Matnas from Gush to Mevasseret, and this year two of the Efrat teams won gold medals in their divisions.
* Motzei Shabbat, 9:30 PM, the Proyekt MOVIE NIGHT. Following the terrific success of the Proyekt's theatrical production a few weeks ago, Yonatan Levi and the teenagers of the Proyekt are back again with a movie evening – videos that the teens made themselves about Gush Etzion – its history, its people and its chesed. It's going to be a very worthwhile evening. Everyone's invited Motzei Shabbat, July 7, 17 Tammuz.
* On Monday evening, July 9, 19 Tammuz, Professor Moshe Arens, former Israeli Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the US will be in Efrat to speak about his groundbreaking book, Flags over the Warsaw Ghetto.







* On Tuesday evening, July 17, 27 Tammuz, HaRav Yisrael Meir Lau, former Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel and current Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, will speak about his new book, Out of the Depths.

* On Tuesday mornings in July, the Women's Beit Midrash presents Batya Hefter and Rabbi Herzl Hefter with shiurim in Parshat Hashavua in English, and the Laws of Mourning in Hebrew.
* Throughout the summer, every Sunday in the library – a film for kids.
* Every Thursday, Hebrew story time with Irit Scharf. Both programs are held at 5 PM and cost 5 NIS per child.
* There's also a reading encouragement program for first thru sixth graders. Read books, earn prizes and celebrate at the end of the summer - Sign up by the librarians.
* Lastly, children in grades six and above are encouraged to sign up in the library for a Volunteer program. For information about any of the library's programs, contact Naava - 0528903828.
* The Matnas of Efrat has a full summer of activities for everyone in the family. Please see the schedules that are in your mailbox, or call Matnas Efrat 9932396 to find out about the tiyulim, films, activities and family fun available just about every day/night of the week.
Mark your Calendar for these upcoming events
* Thursday July 12, 2012, 22 Tammuz in Hebron, 4:30 PM, the Second Annual Conference on the Application of Israeli Sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. It's going to be a fascinating conference with Knesset Members including MK Uri Ariel, Tzipi Hotoveli, Ze'ev Elkin and more; former US counsel Yoram Ettinger, Mayor of the Shomron Gershon Mesika and others.
Lectures will be in Hebrew with simultaneous English translation. There will be buses from all of Israel, including the Gush Etzion Junction.
This program is sponsored by Women for Israel's Tomorrow (Women in Green) - Machpela Visitors Center - Just Peace for Israel - Hebron Heritage Center - Professors for a Strong Israel - and Shomron Liaison Office.
